Nelson C. Baker

Nelson C. Baker serves as Dean of Professional Education and Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he leads the College of Lifetime Learning. His research develops intelligent learning environments for engineering education, applies artificial intelligence to solve engineering problems, and explores robotics applications in civil infrastructure. As Dean, Baker oversees professional education initiatives serving working professionals through certificate programs, short courses, and online learning.

Baker earned his B.C.E. in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech (1980), followed by M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University (1985, 1989). He has advanced the use of technology in professional education, particularly through online and hybrid program delivery. His leadership has expanded Georgia Tech's global educational impact through innovative learning models.
