Nelson Alves Ramalho is an Assistant Professor at Lusófona University's Institute of Social Work and an Associate Researcher at CIES-Iscte (Center for Research and Studies in Sociology). He also holds a position as a Social Worker at the Social Security Institute, IP (Social Development Unit) since 2019.

Ramalho's research focuses on gender and sexuality, with particular emphasis on transgender issues, sex work, and social exclusion. He has developed extensive expertise in understanding the experiences of transgender sex workers, gender diversity, and social vulnerability through five years of field research.

Recent work examines femicide representation in media, transgender healthcare experiences, and pandemic impacts on social organizations, demonstrating his commitment to addressing contemporary social challenges through academic research.
