Neil Kelleher is a Professor at Northwestern University, affiliated with the Feinberg School of Medicine and the Department of Molecular Biosciences. He holds the Walter and Mary Elizabeth Glass Professorship in the Life Sciences and serves as Director of the Chemistry of Life Processes Institute (CLP) and Northwestern Proteomics. His academic journey includes a B.S. in Chemistry and B.A. in German from Pacific Lutheran University (1992) and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Cornell University (1997).
Dr. Kelleher’s research focuses on three core areas: Top-Down Proteomics, Natural Products Biosynthesis/Discovery, and Chromatin Biology. His team has pioneered advancements in high-performance mass spectrometry, leading to ~120 publications and the development of ProSight software, utilized by over 650 labs worldwide. Key contributions include intact protein analysis, histone modification studies, and the discovery of novel natural products from microorganisms.
His awards include the Biemann Medal (2009), Pittsburgh Conference Achievement Award (2008), and multiple fellowships such as the Packard Fellowship and Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award. He has mentored ~50 Ph.D. students and postdoctoral trainees, fostering a collaborative environment in proteomics and biochemistry.
As a leader in interdisciplinary research, Kelleher directs facilities and initiatives that bridge chemistry and biology, driving innovations in protein analysis and biomedical applications.
