معرفی
Professor Neil Hewitt is a Professor of Energy and Director of the Centre for Sustainable Technologies at Ulster University's Belfast School of Architecture and the Built Environment since 2008. He is a Chartered Physicist and Chartered Engineer with memberships in the Institute of Physics, Institute of Refrigeration, and the Energy Institute. His work spans across sustainable energy technologies, with a particular focus on heat pumps, energy storage, and demand side management.
Professor Hewitt is an acknowledged expert in the field of heat pumps, both in their development and in their end-use, especially with energy storage in the emerging sector of demand side management. His research interests include sustainable technologies, renewable energy integration, thermal energy systems, phase change materials, and building energy efficiency. He has initiated and worked on numerous significant European and UK Research Council funded research projects that have engaged academia, public and private bodies.
His recent publication portfolio demonstrates a strong focus on sustainable energy technologies, particularly heat pump systems, thermal energy storage with phase change materials, and the integration of renewable energy sources. His work spans theoretical modeling, experimental validation, and practical implementation of energy technologies across various sectors including residential buildings, industrial applications, and transportation systems.
Professor Hewitt has received notable recognition for his contributions to renewable energy:
- World Renewable Energy Network Pioneer Award (2018)
- Dean's Award (2020)
As Director of the Centre for Sustainable Technologies, Professor Hewitt has secured significant research funding and leads multiple active projects including "Demand Flexibility for Efficient Northern Ireland Energy Systems," "Modelling and Optimising on-farm Renewable Energy Generation," and "Peace Plus Geothermal." His research portfolio includes 69 projects with 9 currently active, demonstrating sustained research leadership and impact in the field of sustainable energy technologies.
Professor Hewitt leads the Centre for Sustainable Technologies at Ulster University, where his team focuses on developing innovative solutions for energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, and sustainable building technologies. His center collaborates with international partners and industry stakeholders to translate research into practical applications that address pressing energy challenges.
