Dr. Neil Hanlon is a Professor of Geography and Adjunct Professor in the School of Health Sciences and Northern Medical Program at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC). He holds a BAA from Ryerson University, and MA and PhD from Queen's University (Kingston). His research focuses on health geography, particularly rural and remote healthcare accessibility, aging in resource-dependent communities, and community-based research. He teaches courses such as Health Geography and Advanced Qualitative Methodology.
Dr. Hanlon has secured significant funding through grants like the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and has published extensively on topics including telemedicine, aging populations, and healthcare policy. His awards include the UNBC Excellence in Service Award (2020) and fellowships from CIHR and SSHRC.
He has advised numerous graduate students and contributed to projects like the Northern Medical Program’s impact on physician recruitment. His affiliations include the UNBC Health Research Institute and Rural Health Services Research Network of BC.
