University of California, Berkeleyمعرفی
Neil Gilbert serves as the Milton and Gertrude Chernin Professor of Social Welfare and Social Services at the University of California Berkeley's School of Social Welfare. He directs the Center for Comparative Welfare State Research and founded the Family Welfare Research Group. His extensive university service includes acting dean (1994-96), doctoral program chair, and leadership roles in the Berkeley Senate Faculty's Graduate Council, Committee on Privilege and Tenure, and multiple statewide committees.
His research focuses on Comparative Welfare State Analysis, Child Welfare Policy, Family Policy, and Social Security Systems. Gilbert examines how cultural contexts shape welfare approaches, with particular emphasis on work-family dynamics, gender equity in social protection, and the evolution of welfare states from entitlement to activation models. His scholarship critically analyzes poverty measurement, inequality narratives, and the impact of capitalism on progressive social movements.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a consistent focus on cross-national welfare comparisons and child protection systems. His work demonstrates increasing attention to global policy frameworks, particularly in child welfare typologies and middle-class sustainability. The research shows strong methodological diversity, combining historical analysis, cross-cultural comparisons, and policy implementation studies, with growing emphasis on East-West policy contrasts.
