Neil Fitzgerald is a Professor of Chemistry and Associate Dean of the School of Science at Marist University. He holds a BSc from the University of Kent (UK), an MSc from Loughborough University (UK), and a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts. His research focuses on environmental analysis, atomic spectrometry, and chemical education, with notable work on passive samplers, paper-based microfluidic devices, and aroma compounds in craft brewing. Fitzgerald has led interdisciplinary projects, including studies on Hurricane Sandy's soil contamination, bioremediation of PAHs, and malting processes funded by the ASBC. He pioneered flipped classroom approaches using Prezi and YouTube, integrating forensic science into analytical chemistry education. As a past interim Dean, he contributed to administrative initiatives like the physician assistant program. Awards include the 2001 Eaton Fellowship and the 2009-2010 Marist Faculty Recognition Award. His work extends to international collaborations and study abroad programs in environmental chemistry.
Education:
