Neil Brown

Neil Brown is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Bath and BBSRC Future Leader Fellow. He holds a PhD in Plant Pathogenesis from the University of Edinburgh, MRes from Imperial College London, and BSc from University of Bath.

His research focuses on molecular fungal biology, particularly Fusarium graminearum and Aspergillus nidulans, investigating how fungal pathogens sense host environments to develop virulence strategies. The applied objective is developing novel antifungals to prevent crop diseases and mycotoxin contamination in food supplies.

Research outputs demonstrate consistent focus on fungal pathogenesis mechanisms, mycotoxin threats to food security, and host-pathogen interactions. Recent work examines cell wall stress responses and global impacts of mycotoxin contamination.

He leads multiple research projects including characterizing fungal nutrient transporters and receptor conformations vital to Fusarium head blight control.
