Neil Bricklebank

Professor Neil Bricklebank serves as the Associate Dean for Research, Innovation, and Knowledge Exchange at the College of Health, Wellbeing, and Life Sciences, Sheffield Hallam University. He holds a BSc and PhD in Chemistry from UMIST (Manchester) and has held postdoctoral roles at UMIST and Durham University. His interdisciplinary research focuses on inorganic materials chemistry at the intersection of biological sciences and healthcare technology, with projects including horticultural nutrient solutions (collaborating with La Trobe University and industry partners), mitochondria-targeted nanoparticle applications, and antibacterial wound dressings. He actively promotes STEM education through public engagement initiatives and has led curriculum development for Chemistry degrees at Sheffield Hallam.

Neil’s professional roles include membership in the UK Heads of Chemistry group, QAA Chemistry Benchmark Panel (2021), and representation in the Heads of University Biosciences group (2021–2024). His consultancy work spans local and multinational companies, emphasizing knowledge transfer and industry collaboration.

Research outputs include studies on plant germination mechanisms, catalytic synthesis methods, and material toxicity reduction. He leads the Biomolecular Sciences Research Centre and has secured funding from BBSRC and Innovate UK for applied research projects.
