Dr. Neeraj M Patel, MD, MPH, MBS is an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery (Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery) and Medical Social Sciences (Intervention Science) at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. He practices at Northwestern Medicine and has hospital affiliations with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. Dr. Patel specializes in pediatric orthopaedic surgery with a focus on sports medicine and patellofemoral disorders.
Dr. Patel completed his BA at New York University (2005), followed by an MS from UMDNJ - Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (2007), and both his MPH and MD from UMDNJ (2012). He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases (2017) and a pediatric orthopaedic surgery fellowship at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (2018). He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
His primary research interests focus on pediatric orthopaedic surgery, particularly patellofemoral instability, tibial tubercle osteotomy, and pediatric sports medicine. Dr. Patel has made significant contributions to understanding complication rates following tibial tubercle osteotomy procedures in young patients with patellar instability and has conducted research on disparities in pediatric orthopaedic surgery. His work emphasizes evidence-based practice and clinical research methodology in pediatric orthopaedics.
Analysis of Dr. Patel's recent publications reveals a consistent focus on patellofemoral instability management in pediatric and adolescent patients. His research particularly examines tibial tubercle osteotomy techniques, complication profiles, and outcomes in young patients. He is also an Editorial Board Member for the Journal of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (2023-present). His professional society memberships include the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine Society, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
