Necibe Tuncer is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Florida Atlantic University, specializing in mathematical biology and infectious disease modeling. She holds a Ph.D. from Auburn University (2007) and previously held positions at the University of Tulsa and University of Florida.
Her research develops mathematical frameworks linking within-host pathogen dynamics with population-level epidemiology, focusing on structural/practical identifiability of multi-scale models for diseases including HIV, Zika, and COVID-19. She creates computational tools to optimize public health interventions.
Her publication trends show sustained focus on HIV immunology, pandemic modeling, and parameter identifiability methods, with recent expansion into opioid epidemic interactions.
- Lord Robert May Best Paper Prize (2022)
She actively advises graduate students in mathematical epidemiology and has secured multiple NIH/NSF grants including 'Modeling the Opioid and HIV Epidemics' (NSF DMS-1951626) and 'Identifiability Investigation of Multi-scale Models' (NIH R01GM152743). She serves on editorial boards for PLOS Computational Biology, Scientific Reports, and Mathematical Biosciences.
