Neal Patwari is a Professor at the University of Utah, holding appointments in the Kahlert School of Computing and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research focuses on wireless networking, statistical signal processing, and equity in automated systems. He directs the Sensing, People, and Networks (SPAN) Lab, known for innovations in radio dynamic zones (RDZs) and the POWDER platform for wireless experimentation.
- Education: BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech; PhD in EE:Systems from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
- Key Positions: Faculty at University of Utah since 2006 (briefly at Washington University in St. Louis, 2009–2024).
Research interests span wireless systems, spectrum management, and societal equity. Notable projects include POWDER (a wireless experimentation platform) and studies on racial disparities in medical devices like pulse oximeters. His work has been recognized with awards, including the 2024 DySPAN Best Paper Award.
