Ndunge Kiiti is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Global Development at Cornell University, with over three decades of international development experience. She also serves as adjunct faculty at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health. Her roles include Director of the Student Multidisciplinary Applied Research Teams (SMART) Program at Cornell’s Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management and leadership in initiatives like the USDA/NIFA-funded Agribusiness Strategy in Emerging Markets. Dr. Kiiti holds a PhD in Communication from Cornell University (2002), with additional study at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.
Her research focuses on communication technologies, public health, and entrepreneurship, particularly exploring mobile money’s impact on smallholder farmers in Rwanda and Ethiopia. Key interests include microfinance, agricultural development, and empowering vulnerable populations through technology. She has directed projects such as the Poultry Value Chain in Eastern Kenya and the Mobile Money Symposium at Cornell.
Notable awards include the 2019 L.A. Potts Success Stories Award for the SMART Program and teaching excellence recognitions in 2011 and 2001. Dr. Kiiti’s work spans global health, development policy, and community engagement, with collaborations across Africa, Latin America, and the U.S.
Her grants include USDA/NIFA support for emerging markets research, Institute for African Development funding for mobile money studies, and IMTFI grants examining financial inclusion. She advises student teams working with entrepreneurs in Rwanda, Ghana, Zambia, and Kenya, emphasizing inclusive development strategies.
