Nazim Khan is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Western Australia (UWA), affiliated with the School of Physics, Maths and Computing and the UWA Medical School. He holds roles such as Honours Co-coordinator, Co-chair of the School Outreach Committee, and member of the Faculty Board. His academic journey includes a Commonwealth scholarship in Electrical Engineering (1976), a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Statistics, and a PhD in Statistics (2004). Khan has held positions at multiple institutions, including UQ and Griffith University, and has served as a Consultant Statistician and Research Associate under Professor Geoff McLachlan.
Research focuses on statistical methodologies, including stochastic modelling, Hidden Markov Models, and time series analysis, with applications in medicine and life sciences. Notable projects include ion channel data analysis and statistical modelling of pediatric surgical outcomes. He has contributed to grants such as the WA Prisoner Population Forecasting project and leads initiatives in perioperative analytics.
Teaching expertise spans Business Statistics, Applied Statistics, and Statistics for MBA programs. Awards include Excellence in Teaching and Learning (2004, 2022). Current research interests include statistical algorithm development and clinical trial design, particularly in pediatric care settings. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and education.
