Education:
- BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Technology, Baghdad (2005)
- MSc in Wireless Communication Systems (with distinction), Brunel University London (2009)
- PhD, Brunel University London (2021)
Dr. Jawad's research focuses on edge network architecture for IoT systems, particularly in designing D2D-assisted, highly dynamic cell-free networks leveraging Sub-6 GHz, mmWave, THz, and Optical Wireless Communication (OWC). His work integrates high-resolution 3D Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) with up to 1 mm accuracy, targeting smart factory applications. He emphasizes virtualization platforms to enable dynamic, automated, and flexible service deployment across Industry 4.0, intelligent transportation, and eHealth sectors.
His current research is aligned with next-generation mobile networks, contributing to standards through the 5GPPP architecture white paper and consultancy in the 6G-BRAINS EU project. Collaborations include Deutsche Telekom AG, Fraunhofer IIS, and the University of Leicester.
Dr. Jawad has published over 20 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers in prestigious venues. His work trends show a strong focus on network virtualization, IoT scalability, and advanced wireless integration for industrial applications.
He has led research teams, notably as Brunel’s research team leader in the European-funded Internet of Radio Light (IoRL) project, where he contributed to deploying mobile gNBs with 5G access technologies. He also played a key role in implementing the Home IP Gateway (HIPGW) using open-source Virtualization Infrastructure Manager.
Dr. Jawad teaches courses such as ICT & Environment, Green Computing Technologies, Smart Systems (MSc), Production Projects, Team Projects, Computer Communications, and Computing Systems. He supports student projects at multiple levels and promotes responsible and sustainable computing practices.
His research lab and team activities are centered on developing novel network architectures for future wireless systems, involving collaboration across academia and industry. These efforts are instrumental in advancing the deployment of intelligent, scalable, and automated network infrastructures for vertical industries.
