Nathaniel Huebsch

Dr. Nathaniel Huebsch is an Associate Professor in Biomedical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis' McKelvey School of Engineering. His research focuses on stem cell mechanobiology, hydrogel-based tissue repair, and 3D heart-in-a-dish models for cardiac disease studies. He joined Washington University in 2018 after roles at UC Berkeley and the Gladstone Institute.

Research interests include translating mechanobiological principles into therapies for cardiac and fibrotic diseases. His lab develops biomaterials to control stem cell behavior and models to study genetic and mechanical influences on heart function. He collaborates with multiple institutes, including the Cardiac Bioelectricity & Arrhythmia Center and the Center for Regenerative Medicine.

Recent work highlights mechanical forces in fibrosis regulation and iPSC-based models for cardiac disease mechanisms. His affiliations span interdisciplinary centers focused on cardiovascular and regenerative medicine research.
