Nathan Skelton is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Mortuary Science at Wayne State University. He is a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer with professional experience in funeral service operations prior to transitioning to full-time academia in 2018.
Education:
- B.A. in Anthropology from UC-Berkeley
- Master of Forensic Sciences from National University
- Funeral Service Education degree from American River College (2014)
Research Interests: Focuses on mortuary science applications including restorative art techniques, anatomical pathology for embalming, microbiological considerations in preservation, funeral service history, marketing strategies for funeral homes, and industry education standards. His work bridges forensic science principles with practical funeral service operations.
Professional Engagement: Active member of the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE) and advocate for continuing education in funeral service. Completed advanced training in major restoration at Fountain National Academy.
Teaching: Regularly instructs courses including Restorative Art I/II, Anatomy for Mortuary Science, Pathology and Microbiology for Mortuary Science, Funeral Service History/Trends, and Funeral Service Marketing/Merchandising.
