Nathan Merchant

Nathan Merchant serves as an Honorary Lecturer in the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia and is a Member of the Collaborative Centre for Sustainable Use of the Seas. He also holds the position of Principal Scientist in Noise & Bioacoustics at the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas), where he provides scientific advice on underwater noise to UK government bodies including Defra, MMO, and NRW. Internationally, he co-chairs the OSPAR Intersessional Correspondence Group on noise, providing scientific coordination for North-East Atlantic nations.

Dr. Merchant's research centers on underwater noise pollution and its impact on marine life. His work bridges the fields of acoustics, marine ecology, and environmental policy, with particular focus on how human-generated noise affects marine mammals and ecosystems.
