Nathan Brown is an Associate Professor of French at Furman University, where he has been recognized with the Francis Bonner “American Scholar” Award (2018). He specializes in 18th-century French studies, including transatlantic visions of New France, Enlightenment literature, and Québécois identity. His research bridges historical analysis with modern digital humanities, as seen in his work on topics like transvestism in literature and the cultural impact of the video game Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation.
Education: Ph.D. and M.A. in French from the University of Virginia; B.A. in French from Furman University. He studied in Montréal and Versailles, France, and has taught at Randolph-Macon College before returning to Furman.
