Nate Heuer serves as Associate Professor of Graphic Design and Illustration, Drawing at Indiana University of Pennsylvania within the Department of Art and Design (College of Arts, Humanities, Media, and Public Affairs). His office is located in Sprowls Hall, Room 115, with standard academic-year office hours Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and 1:00–4:30 p.m.
His research critically examines architectural wreckage through large-scale drawings that manifest Joseph Schumpeter's principle of Creative Destruction in consumerist economies. Concurrently, Heuer investigates cognition-perception intersections by applying representational and ideational drawing to test Andy Clark's Extended Mind Thesis, which theorizes cognition extending beyond the brain into environmental loops. This interdisciplinary work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and published in New American Paintings and Drawing Essentials: A Complete Guide to Drawing.
Heuer actively engages academic discourse through presentations at international forums including the Cognitive Futures in the Humanities Conference at the University of Oxford, demonstrating rigorous integration of artistic practice with cognitive philosophy.
