Dr. Natasha Hadgraft is a Lecturer in Physiology and Unit Leader for Level 6 Cardiovascular Science at Manchester Metropolitan University's Life Sciences department. She leads the Research Project 2 component of the Scientist Training Programme (STP). Her expertise lies in cardiac physiology, particularly the impact of inflammatory mediators and uraemic toxins on cardiac dysfunction in Chronic Kidney Disease. She holds a PhD and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) qualification.
Dr. Hadgraft teaches across undergraduate programs including Human Physiology, Human Bioscience, and Biomedical Science. Her teaching portfolio includes Foundational Human Physiology, Microbiology, Research & Employability Skills, and Cardiovascular Science units. She has introduced clinical skills-based activities in her cardiovascular science courses to enhance student employability.
Her research focuses on cytokine effects on calcium handling in cardiac myocytes and the role of uraemic toxins in cardiomyocyte dysfunction. She supervises MSc Clinical Science (Cardiac Science) students and leads annual poster presentation events for STP trainees. Notable collaborations include work published in Nature Communications and Heart journals.
Dr. Hadgraft maintains active engagement in academic communities through conference presentations and media endorsements, including a promotional video for the Physiological Society.
