Natanya Duncan serves as Associate Professor of History and Director of Africana Studies at Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY), specializing in 20th and 21st-century African Diaspora history with emphasis on global freedom movements.
Her research examines constructions of identity and nation-building among women of color, migration patterns, color/class dynamics in Diasporic communities, and intellectual engagements across the African Diaspora. She pioneers the concept of 'efficient womanhood' to analyze how Garveyite women synthesized Pan Africanism, Black Nationalism, and Diasporic Blackness through gendered activist strategies within the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA).
