Natalie Wyer is an Associate Professor in Experimental Social Psychology at the University of East Anglia (UEA). She holds affiliations with the School of Psychology, Cognition, Action and Perception research group, Developmental Science, and the Social Cognition Research Group. Her research focuses on cognitive mechanisms underlying social interaction, including perspective-taking, prediction, and imitation, alongside holistic vs. analytic processing styles. She has held academic positions at the University of Bristol, Free University of Amsterdam, and Plymouth University before joining UEA in 2017.
Her projects include studies funded by the Leverhulme Trust (e.g., 'The role of interpersonal agency in social cognition' 2024–2027) and EPSRC (e.g., 'A Platform for Responsive Conversational Agents to Enhance Engagement and Disclosure', 2019–2022). Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to social inclusion and technology.
Research interests span social cognition failures leading to exclusion, cultural influences on holistic processing, and cross-disciplinary models of cognitive architecture. Collaborations involve international teams exploring robotics perception, memory, and human-agent interaction.
