Natalie Person is Professor of Psychology at Rhodes College and Dean for Curricular Development. Her research develops intelligent tutoring systems and conversational agents that model expert human tutors, with applications in science education.
Key contributions include the AutoTutor system, which incorporates affective computing to respond to learners' cognitive and emotional states. Research examines question-asking patterns, tutorial dialogue moves, and the intersection of cognition and emotion in learning. Methodologies combine discourse analysis with AI system design.
Honored with the Clarence Day Award for Research and Jameson M. Jones Faculty Service Award. Current work explores socially intelligent interviewing systems and LSA implementation in educational environments.
