Natalie Mendoza is an Assistant Professor specializing in Mexican American and U.S. Latinx history, civil rights history, and the history of race and racism at the University of Colorado Boulder's Department of History. She holds a Ph.D. in History from UC Berkeley and a B.A. in Political Science from Sonoma State University. Her research examines the intersection of geopolitics, war, and intellectual thought in Mexican American communities during the mid-20th century, with a current book project under contract with University of Pennsylvania Press.
Her teaching focuses on U.S. history courses like 'Mexican American History since 1848' and graduate pedagogy. She has pioneered HistorySoTL (Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in History) initiatives, leading the History Teaching & Learning Project (2017-2019) to reform undergraduate curriculum. Her HistorySoTL publications address assessment, equity, and interdisciplinary teaching strategies.
Mendoza has been recognized with a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Stipend (2023) and a Clements Center fellowship (2019-2020). She currently serves on the College Board's AP U.S. History Exam committee and co-founded the Teaching History Conference to bridge K-16 educators. Her work emphasizes connecting historical scholarship to contemporary social justice goals through innovative pedagogy.
