Natalie "Nat" Holtzmann is a Lecturer in Liberal Arts at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). She holds a BA from the University of Chicago (2016), an MA from the University of Illinois at Chicago (2020), and an MFA in Writing from SAIC (2023). Her interdisciplinary work bridges creative writing, art history, and philosophy, focusing on themes of identity, voice, and societal representation. She co-founded TEMPER Press and directs The Writing Workshop at the Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park.
Her research interests include the intersection of self-portraiture in art and literature, the philosophical dimensions of voice, and transdisciplinary creative practices. Courses she teaches explore these themes, such as FYS I: Self-Portraiture & Society and FYS II: Hearing Voices, which examine how societal structures shape individual expression. Her publications appear in venues like Chicago Review, Necessary Fiction, and Minnesota Review, with work nominated for major literary awards.
Holtzmann also serves as a freelance writer, editor, and translator. She previously founded Flood’s Hall Civic Center, demonstrating her commitment to community-driven cultural projects. Her recent creative output includes short fiction exploring narrative voice and poetry interrogating existential themes.
