Natalia Kovalchuk

Prof. Dr. Natalia Kovalchuk is an Associate Professor of History at the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv and a guest researcher at the LMU Chair of East European History since March 2022. She specializes in the intellectual history of East-Central Europe, focusing on Pan-Slavism, Neo-Imperialism, and the legacy of 19th-century ideologies in contemporary contexts.

Her research explores the interplay of empires and nations in East-Central Europe, with a focus on urban identity and supranational movements like Pan-Slavism. She has analyzed the persistence of 19th-century ideological frameworks in modern Russian political thought.

Prof. Kovalchuk has received significant funding from the Gerda Henkel Foundation, Volkswagen Foundation, and Carl Friedrich von Siemens Stiftung. She taught a Ukrainian history course at the University of Passau (2023-2024) and leads a project on All-Slavic congresses in contemporary Russia.
