Natalia Hristova

Assoc. Prof. Natalia Hristova, PhD, is a faculty member at New Bulgarian University (NBU) in the Department of Fine Arts, College of Art Studies. She holds the academic rank of Associate Professor in Cultural Theory and History.

Education:

• Master's in History and Archaeology, Sofia University "St. Clement of Ohrid" (1978)
• PhD in History from the Institute of History, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, dissertation on "Public Transformations and Satire in Bulgarian Periodicals 1944-1948"

Research Interests:

• Modern European and Bulgarian history, with a focus on cultural and political dynamics under socialism
• Social psychology of ideological conformity and dissent
• Political science of post-socialist transitions and memory politics
• Semiology of media and artistic expression in authoritarian contexts

Publications: Her work explores the interplay between power and intellectual circles in 20th-century Bulgaria, analyzing satire, socialist realism, and post-1989 cultural reinterpretation. Key themes include media manipulation, artistic resistance, and the construction of historical memory.

Teaching: Currently teaches "Bulgarian Culture in the Second Half of the 20th Century" (course code HACB762) at NBU.
