Naomi DeCelles

Naomi DeCelles is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at The University of Tampa. She completed her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature at the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2020, following an M.A. from UCLA (2014) and a B.A. from Stanford University (2012).

Her research bridges feminist and queer historiography, film theory, and public humanities. She focuses on the intersections of historiography and power, particularly the ethics and poetics of reconstructing histories of marginalized communities through alternative archives.

DeCelles’ first book, Recollecting Lotte Eisner: Cinema, Exile, and the Archive, employs multilingual archival research to analyze the transnational career of Lotte Eisner, proposing a feminist historiographical ethics for film studies. Her other publications appear in Journal of Cinema and Media Studies, Screen, and Quarterly Review of Film and Video.
