Nancy Shurtz is the Bernard A. Kliks Professor of Law at the University of Oregon School of Law, affiliated with the Business Law Program. Her work bridges taxation, estate planning, gender and race justice, and sustainable business practices.

Professor Shurtz’s research explores the societal implications of tax policy, particularly through feminist and racial justice frameworks. She has authored foundational texts such as Education Planning: Taxes, Trusts & Techniques and Sustainability and Business Law, contributing to debates at conferences like the Critical Tax Conference and Law and Society Conference.
A former Wharton School faculty member and practicing attorney at Ginsburg, Feldman and Bress in Washington D.C., she brings both academic and professional expertise to Oregon Law. Her scholarship addresses critical issues, including domestic violence, elder care, and tax policy’s role in perpetuating or mitigating inequality.
She supports the Business Law Program’s initiatives and collaborates with the Legal Research and Writing Program, emphasizing practice-ready education.
