Nancy Reid is the University Professor of Statistical Sciences at the University of Toronto, a position she has held since 1986. She earned her B.Math from the University of Waterloo (1974), M.Sc. from the University of British Columbia (1976), and Ph.D. from Stanford University (1979). Her research focuses on theoretical statistics, likelihood inference, and foundational aspects of statistical methodology. Notably, she collaborated with Sir David Cox on influential work on likelihood-based inference. Reid has held leadership roles, including Chair of the Department of Statistical Sciences (1997–2002) and Scientific Director of the Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute (2015–2019). She is a Fellow of prestigious societies and has received numerous awards, including the Order of Canada and the Parzen Prize.
Her academic contributions include over 70 journal papers and books like *The Theory of Design of Experiments* with Cox. Reid has advised numerous students and serves on editorial boards. She advocates for the role of statistics in policy and interdisciplinary research, reflecting her commitment to both theoretical innovation and practical applications.
