Nancy J. Currie-Gregg is a Professor of Practice in Industrial & Systems Engineering and Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University, holding the Don Lummus '58 Professorship of Practice in Engineering. She serves as Director of the Texas A&M Space Institute and is affiliated with Multidisciplinary Engineering and Engineering Academic & Student Affairs. Her roles span academia and industry leadership in aerospace engineering and human systems integration.
Currie-Gregg earned her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering with a focus on Human Factors Engineering and Artificial Intelligence from the University of Houston (1997). Her research emphasizes spacecraft safety, human-robot interaction, and risk analysis. She has held senior NASA roles, including Deputy Director of Engineering and Chief Engineer, and led post-Columbia Space Shuttle safety efforts.
Her awards include the NASA Distinguished Service Medal (2003), Presidential Rank Award (2015), and multiple industry recognitions. Currie-Gregg is a retired U.S. Army Colonel, former NASA astronaut with four space missions (1,000+ hours), and a leader in aerospace safety and systems engineering.
Her work bridges academia and industry through labs like the SAFE Lab and collaborations in space exploration technologies. She advises on engineering education and leads multidisciplinary initiatives at Texas A&M.
