Nancy Gonzales is the Executive Vice President and University Provost at Arizona State University (ASU), overseeing academic and administrative operations. She holds a PhD from the University of Washington (1992) and is a Foundation Professor in the Department of Psychology within The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Previously, she served as Dean of Natural Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, leading six academic units to achieve educational and research milestones in health, energy, sustainability, and space exploration.
Her research focuses on culturally informed models of human health and development, particularly addressing health disparities in Mexican American and African American communities. She directed the REACH Institute, an interdisciplinary center implementing evidence-based interventions in healthcare, schools, and community agencies. Key research interests include acculturation effects on mental health, family processes, and prevention strategies for school dropout and substance abuse.
Dr. Gonzales has authored over 150 peer-reviewed articles, with recent work emphasizing culturally adapted interventions and neighborhood influences on adolescent behavior. She has received distinguished awards from the American Psychological Association, Society for Prevention Research, and was named a 2021 Most Influential Woman in Arizona. Her service includes leadership roles in the NIMH Family Research Consortium, the Society for Prevention Research, and Arizona's mental health initiatives.
