Professor Nan Zheng is a faculty member in the School of Media Arts and Design at James Madison University. She holds a Ph.D. in Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin, along with an M.A. from the same institution and a B.A. from China Communication University.
Her research focuses on global media dynamics and the economics of new media, with publications in prestigious journals like Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly and the International Journal on Media Management. She explores topics such as misinformation mitigation on social media, digital sustainability of news organizations, and the role of blogs in global news networks.
Teaching expertise includes new media journalism, user experience design, and media literacy. Her career began as an online journalist for the Beijing Olympic Games website, blending technology and journalism.
Notable awards include the AEJMC Top Paper Award and Creative Project Award. Her work bridges theoretical research with practical applications in digital media ecosystems and audience behavior analysis.
