معرفی
Nan D. Walker is a Professor and James P. Morgan Distinguished Professor of Coastal Studies in the Department of Oceanography & Coastal Sciences at Louisiana State University (LSU). He directs the Earth Scan Laboratory and holds academic affiliations within the College of the Coast & Environment. His research focuses on physical oceanography, satellite oceanography, and coastal processes, with particular attention to hurricane impacts, Gulf of Mexico circulation, and coral reef health.
Education:
- B.S., Duke University, 1976
- M.S., Louisiana State University, 1982
- Ph.D., University of Cape Town, 1989
Research Interests:
Dr. Walker’s work spans physical oceanography, satellite remote sensing, and coastal dynamics. Key areas include air-sea interactions, estuarine-shelf exchange, and the effects of tropical cyclones on oceanographic systems. He has extensively studied the Gulf of Mexico Loop Current, sediment transport processes, and the ecological impacts of hurricanes and oil spills.
Publications:
His recent work examines Hurricane Harvey’s coastal impacts, Mississippi River plume dynamics, and sediment behavior in estuaries. He employs satellite data and numerical models to analyze processes like oil spill dispersion and coastal flooding.
Awards & Grants:
Dr. Walker has secured funding for projects analyzing hurricane effects, oil spill dynamics, and coastal management strategies. His work supports interdisciplinary initiatives in marine science and climate resilience.
Labs/Teams:
As director of LSU’s Earth Scan Laboratory, he leads teams in remote sensing applications, coastal monitoring, and disaster response research.
