Dr. Nadja Pernat is a researcher at the University of Münster's Institute of Landscape Ecology, affiliated with the Center for Integrative Biodiversity Research and Applied Ecology (CIBRA). She contributes to the Ecological Novelty research group under Prof. Jonathan Jeschke at Freie Universität Berlin and works in the Animal Ecology lab led by Prof. Sascha Buchholz. Pernat specializes in citizen science initiatives, image-based ecological data analysis, urban biodiversity patterns, and environmental education.
Her research focuses on leveraging public participation for scientific discovery, particularly through secondary data extraction from citizen science platforms. Recent projects examine species dispersal dynamics in human-altered landscapes, diet impacts on insect flight performance, and urbanization effects on Orthoptera diversity. She analyzes mosquito distribution patterns, plant-pollinator interactions, and historical changes in urban avian communities.
Pernat's publications since 2019 demonstrate expertise in ecological monitoring, data validation, and participatory science approaches. She examines how media exposure influences citizen science engagement and develops workflows for analyzing biological interactions through crowdsourced observations. Her work bridges biodiversity research with science communication and environmental policy evaluation.
As an educator, Pernat co-teaches advanced ecology courses, supervises field excursions, and develops statistical methods training. She participates in academic collaborations with institutions in Germany and international partners, contributing to both theoretical and applied ecological research.
