Nadine McGale is a Research Fellow in the Centre for Health Services Research at City St George's, University of London. She joined Professor Newman's research group in 2012 and has established herself as a chartered psychologist with expertise in health psychology and behavior change interventions.
Her educational background includes:
- BSc (Hons) Psychology with Neuropsychology from University of Wales, Bangor
- MSc in Clinical Psychology from University of Wales, Bangor
- PhD in Health Psychology from Dublin City University
Dr. McGale's research focuses on the design, development, and evaluation of complex interventions for improving physical and mental health, with particular emphasis on self-management of chronic conditions, health-related behavior change, and intervention development. Her doctoral work examined integrated exercise and psychotherapeutic interventions for young adult men's mental health using mixed methods approaches.
Her current research spans self-management of long-term conditions (primarily diabetes), impact of genetic risk information on health behavior change, quality of life and recovery following surgery and anesthesia, and the acceptability and effectiveness of alternative mental health interventions. Her publications demonstrate methodological sophistication across cardiac surgery outcomes, diabetes management, and men's mental health research.
Dr. McGale has secured research funding as both principal investigator and co-investigator from City University London Research Sustainability Fund and the Irish Research Council. Her work shows particular strength in addressing fidelity of intervention delivery in complex healthcare settings.
She contributes to postgraduate education through teaching Introduction to Research Methods for the MRes Clinical Research & MSc Health Services Research & Management programs.
Dr. McGale collaborates extensively with Professor Stanton Newman, Dr. Anna Davies, Dr. Shashi Hirani, and Professor Jill Francis within the School of Health Sciences, as well as external partners like Dr. Paul Gaffney from the Health Service Executive in Ireland.
