Dr. Na Sil Heo is an Assistant Professor of East Asian History at the University of South Carolina's Department of History, housed within the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a B.A. from Hawaii Pacific University, an M.A. from George Washington University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto.
Her research focuses on childhood in postwar South Korea, transnational anticommunism, and the history of family planning within global medical networks. She has published in Journal of Asian Studies and Gender & History, and is completing a book manuscript analyzing Cold War liberalism's impact on childhood. A second project examines South Korea's family planning history through transnational medical exchanges.
Heo teaches courses like Introduction to East Asian Civilization and Modern East Asia. Her work has been supported by prestigious fellowships, including those from Yale, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Toronto.
