Natalia Bustos Vázquez is a Professor at the Department of Health Sciences in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Universidad de Burgos (UBU). Her research focuses on biophysical chemistry with specialties in nucleic acid interactions, transition metal complexes, and biomedical applications of nanomaterials. She leads the IAFIV (Advanced Integrative Physiology for Life) research group and has collaborated with the TERMOCIN group on reaction thermodynamics.
Education: PhD in Health Sciences (UBU, 2011) with thesis on nucleic acid-metal complex interactions under supervision of Dr. Begoña García Ruiz and Dr. José María Leal Villalba.
Research highlights include: 1) Design of metallopharmaceuticals for cancer therapy, 2) Development of fluorescent DNA-binding probes, 3) Nanocarrier systems for drug delivery, and 4) Investigating athletic performance biomarkers. Her work spans from molecular mechanisms of nucleic acid interactions to translational applications in health sciences.
Publications emphasize structural biology of nucleic acids, medicinal inorganic chemistry, and sports nutrition. Over 50 peer-reviewed articles demonstrate multidisciplinary approaches combining experimental and computational methods.
Labs/Teams: Active in UBU's Biophysics and Medicinal Chemistry laboratories. Collaborates with international teams on nanomedicine and metallodrug development.
