N.D. Purwanti holds dual academic positions as a PhD Student at the University of Groningen's Campus Fryslân and Lecturer at Universitas Gadjah Mada's Department of Public Policy and Management in Indonesia. She operates within the Responsible Governance and Technology research ecosystem, focusing on the critical intersection of digital tools and grassroots governance structures.
Her research expertise spans digital democracy, bottom-up governance, collective decision-making processes, Global South public policy, and political theory. She investigates how global sustainability frameworks like the SDGs are dynamically reshaped through local implementation in Indonesian villages, emphasizing decolonized approaches to policy translation that center community agency over top-down mandates.
Her 2025 publication analyzes Indonesia's village-level SDG adaptation, revealing how national policies transform through local governance practices. This work positions her at the forefront of Global South scholarship challenging conventional sustainability paradigms.
As a lecturer at Universitas Gadjah Mada, she trains future policy professionals while conducting doctoral research at Groningen that bridges theoretical political science with practical governance challenges. Her dual institutional role enables unique cross-continental analysis of policy implementation.
She leads research activities within the Responsible Governance and Technology group, which examines how digital tools can empower rather than disrupt traditional community decision-making structures, particularly in rural Global South contexts.
