N. Sanjay Rebello is a Professor in both the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Department of Curriculum & Instruction at Purdue University. He holds concurrent appointments and has held previous academic roles at Kansas State University and Clarion University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on improving STEM education through visual cueing, manipulatives, and pedagogical content knowledge integration.
Rebello earned his Ph.D. and Sc.M. in Physics from Brown University (1995 and 1992), and dual Sc.M. degrees in Engineering and Physics from Brown (1992). He also holds an M.Sc. in Physics and a B.E. in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology & Science, India (1989).
His research interests include enhancing problem-solving skills via visual feedback, comparing physical/virtual manipulatives for learning, and integrating pedagogy into teacher training programs. Recent grants include NSF-funded projects exploring manipulatives in STEM and visual cueing strategies.
Rebello has mentored numerous graduate and undergraduate students, many of whom now hold academic or professional roles in education and research. His awards include the prestigious PECASE (2004) and Coffman Chair (2012–2013).
