معرفی
N. J. Shah is a JARA-Professor and Professor of Neurology at RWTH Aachen University, Germany, where he also serves as Director of the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine – Medical Imaging Physics (INM-4). His research focuses on MRI physics, multimodal neuroimaging, and ultra-high-field brain imaging.
- PhD in Physics, University of Manchester (1987)
- Diploma in Advanced Studies in Science (1984)
- BSc in Physics, University of Sheffield (1983)
Research Interests
N. J. Shah specializes in developing advanced MRI techniques for quantitative and functional brain imaging, with applications in neuro-oncology, precision psychiatry, and metabolic imaging. His work bridges physics, neuroscience, and clinical medicine, particularly in multimodal imaging (MR-PET-EEG) and ultra-high-field MRI (7T/9.4T). He has pioneered methods for resting-state network mapping and water content quantification in neurological disorders.
Publications
Shah's research spans neuroimaging technology, brain tumor diagnostics, and clinical applications of MRI. His 2022 work on quantitative water content atlases and ultra-high-resolution resting-state networks highlights his focus on image data science and neuroinformatics. Earlier papers (2001-2017) established foundational methods in T1 mapping and multimodal neuroimaging.
Scientific Awards
Shah has received the Veski Award (2015), an Honorary Doctorate from Georgian Technical University (2015), and the ISMRM Outstanding Teacher Award (2013). He holds prestigious fellowships, including the Royal Society of Chemistry (2019), Royal Society of Medicine (2018), and Institute of Physics (2003).
Collaborative Leadership
As co-director of the Jülich-Aachen Research Alliance (JARA-Brain) and director of INM-4 and INM-11 at Forschungszentrum Jülich, Shah leads interdisciplinary teams in advancing neuroimaging physics and clinical applications. His career spans academia (Monash Institute of Medical Engineering, University of Dortmund) and industry roles in medical equipment development.
