N. Hari Narayanan is Professor and John H. and Gail Watson Endowed Chair in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at Auburn University, where he also serves as Department Chair. He is affiliated with the College of Engineering and leads research initiatives in artificial intelligence, cognitive science, and human-computer interaction.

His research focuses on Learning Sciences & Technologies, Human-Computer Interaction, Artificial Intelligence, and Cognitive Science. He has authored over ninety refereed publications and edited three books, with research supported by the National Science Foundation, Institute for Education Sciences, Office of Naval Research, Gates Foundation, Hewlett Foundation, and others. His work explores the intersection of cognition, learning, and intelligent systems, particularly in educational and interactive technologies.
Hari Narayanan has been recognized with multiple honors, including the NSF Director's Award for Collaborative Integration and two Auburn Engineering Faculty Research Excellence Awards. He has delivered invited talks at institutions such as the US Naval Research Laboratory, Polish Academy of Sciences, and universities in France, India, Japan, and South Korea.

He has advised numerous graduate students and led major research grants from federal and private agencies. He previously held research positions at Hitachi's Advanced Research Laboratory, Stanford's Knowledge Systems Laboratory, and Georgia Tech's College of Computing before joining Auburn University in 1996.
Narayanan is actively involved in national and international research collaborations and contributes to advancing AI policy and education. He is a key figure in Auburn’s AI@AU initiative and supports global engagement through partnerships with institutions in South Korea and Germany.
