Māris Taube is a Professor and Head of the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at Riga Stradins University, Faculty of Medicine, and a Leading Researcher at the Institute of Public Health. He is actively engaged in psychiatric research, clinical innovation, and mental health policy development in Latvia.

The most recent publications reflect a strong focus on innovative assessment tools (e.g., 3D emotion composition), pharmacovigilance of antipsychotics like clozapine, community mental health reform, post-COVID-19 mental health, and the intersection of mental and physical health in conditions such as diabetes and irritable bowel syndrome. His work combines clinical case studies, epidemiological research, and the development of clinical guidelines and digital tools.

Taube has supervised PhD students, notably D. Ozerska and E. Siliņa, on projects related to community psychiatric care and diabetes-related mental health. He has secured funding from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Defence, European Commission, and European Regional Development Fund. His advisory roles extend to national scientific bodies, including the Latvian Council of Science as an expert in clinical medicine (2013–2016, 2020–2023, 2022–2025). He is also active in scientific dissemination through peer review (e.g., for Frontiers in Psychiatry, Molecular Psychiatry) and public engagement via media contributions on mental health stigma, euthanasia, and military psychology.
He leads and participates in research labs and teams focused on:
