Dr. Müge Ergun is a researcher at the Department of Archaeology, University of Oxford, specializing in archaeobotany and environmental archaeology. She contributes to the EXPLO project, focusing on early farming communities in the Balkans.
- Ph.D. in Archaeology (2016) from Istanbul University and Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University
- Post-doctoral fellowship at Koç University’s ANAMED
Her research explores the interplay between prehistoric communities and their environment, emphasizing plant domestication, crop husbandry, and foraging practices. Geographic focus spans Southwest Asia, the Eastern Mediterranean, and Southeast Europe.
Recent publications analyze wild plant exploitation at Aşıklı Höyük, firewood management in Central Anatolia, and crop diversity in the Balkans and Iranian Plateau. She investigates how Neolithic societies adapted their agricultural practices across varying landscapes.
Scientific awards include a post-doctoral fellowship at Koç University’s ANAMED. She collaborates on interdisciplinary projects like EXPLO and has worked on sites in Turkey, Cyprus, and the Aegean.
