Mónica Rodrigues is an Invited Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Lisbon (FPUL), with over 15 years of research experience spanning molecular diagnostics and evolutionary genetics. She holds a PhD in Evolutionary Biology and a Biotechnology Engineering degree, focusing on translational applications of genetic research.
Her educational trajectory includes specialized training in Biotechnology Engineering followed by doctoral research in Evolutionary Biology, establishing her interdisciplinary foundation for molecular diagnostic innovation.
Dr. Rodrigues' research centers on in vitro molecular diagnostic test development, with dual emphases on clinical applications and evolutionary genetics. Her work integrates genomics, biosensor engineering, and wildlife conservation biology, exemplified by point-of-care bacterial identification systems and phylogeographic studies of mustelid species. She employs advanced molecular techniques including mitochondrial DNA sequencing and microsatellite marker development to address diagnostic challenges and evolutionary questions.
Analysis of her publication record reveals a strategic progression from foundational wildlife genetics (2007-2012) toward applied diagnostic technologies (2017-2023). Her recent work bridges veterinary biosensors and human medical diagnostics, demonstrating consistent innovation in translating genetic research into practical diagnostic tools while maintaining active contributions to evolutionary biology.
She maintains active affiliations with the Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes (cE3c), where she contributes to interdisciplinary projects integrating molecular diagnostics with ecological research through collaborative networks across European institutions.
