Myrona DeLaney

Myrona DeLaney is a Professor of Teaching and Head of Music Theatre at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), within the Claire Trevor School of the Arts. She holds an M.F.A. in Drama from UCI (1992) and a Doctorate in Education (2009), focusing on creativity and leadership in actor training. Her career spans professional theatre performances, direction, and education, with a specialization in Music Theatre pedagogy and gifted education.

Education highlights include a B.F.A. in Vocal Performance from Ohio University (1979), followed by professional theatre roles across the U.S. and international cruise productions. She has directed over 30 productions at UCI and regional theatres, including Falsettos, Seussical, and Sunday in the Park with George.

Research interests emphasize creativity, emotional intelligence in learning, and interdisciplinary approaches to theatre education. Awards include the Los Angeles Times Critics Award (1996) and UCI’s Excellence in Teaching Award (2002). She leads UCI’s New York Satellite Program in Music Theatre, integrating academic and professional training for students.
