Dr. Myoungju (Jay) Shin is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology at Charles Sturt University (CSU). She holds a B.Sc. (Hons) from Otago University and a PhD from the University of Auckland. Her research focuses on human cognition (attention, perception, memory) and mental health, with a particular emphasis on media multitasking effects across age groups. She supervises Honors, Masters, and PhD students exploring topics like online media consumption and mental health in adolescents and older adults.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on Foundations of Psychology for Health and Human Services, Foundations of Psychology, Cognition, and Cognitive Science. Dr. Shin's research has examined media multitasking's impacts on cognitive abilities, emotional processing, and resilience. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to mental health and well-being. She has peer-reviewed articles for journals like Acta Psychologica and Behaviour and Information Technology.
Recent studies include analyses of media multitasking's link to negative mood, avoidance coping strategies, and attentional errors.
