معرفی
Myles Smith is an Assistant Professor in the field of synthetic organic chemistry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where he began his independent career in 2019. He holds a BSc (Hons) from the University of Cape Town (2006), and a PhD from Columbia University under Scott Snyder (2015). His postdoctoral research was conducted at The Scripps Research Institute and Stanford University, working with Phil Baran and Noah Burns.
His research focuses on the synthesis of complex, bioactive molecules, development of novel synthetic tools for accessing chemical space, and optimizing natural compounds for medical applications. Key interests include understanding molecular mechanisms of action and designing catalyst platforms for chiral small molecules. His lab emphasizes innovative approaches to challenging total syntheses, particularly targeting alkaloids and other complex natural products.
Dr. Smith’s work spans interdisciplinary collaborations, addressing both chemical methodology development and translational applications in drug discovery. His synthetic strategies often integrate radical chemistry, catalytic processes, and asymmetric transformations to tackle molecular complexity efficiently.
