Muzna Al Masri is a Senior Research Fellow at the UCL Urban Laboratory, specializing in Energy Justice, participatory democracy, and ethnographic research in conflict-affected contexts across the SWANA (Southwest Asia and North Africa) region. With a PhD in Anthropology from Goldsmiths, University of London (2016), and a Masters in Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding (2005), she bridges social science theory with policy practice through consultancy work for UN agencies and international organizations.
- Key Appointments: Senior Research Fellow (UCL Urban Laboratory), Co-founder of Ebla Research Collective, Board Member at Public Works Studio (Lebanon).
- Education: PhD Anthropology (Goldsmiths, 2016), MA Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding (Eastern Mennonite University, 2005).
Her research explores:
- Energy transitions and citizen-led deliberation in Lebanon and Tunisia
- Political dimensions of electricity governance in Lebanon
- Ethical challenges in ethnographic work during instability
- Intersection of humanitarian aid and infrastructure politics
Recent projects include convening Citizen Assemblies (2025) to evaluate equity in energy futures. Awards include the Ford Foundation Global Fellowship and postdoctoral fellowships from the Arab Council for the Social Sciences and Orient-Institut Beirut.
